Let's help families in need with FAROL
FAROL is a beautiful volunteer project helping local families in need, of which there are way more than you might think. Founded by the parishes of Ericeira and Carvoeira, they provide daily food distribution, hospital transport, tutoring, legal support, and even help people find jobs and homes. They also run a little shop near Jogo da Bola, where donated items are sold to raise funds for their amazing work. Helping out FAROL will directly impact the lives of many fellow Ericeirians.
Oh, and don’t worry if your Portuguese isn’t perfect—FAROL is used to working with international volunteers!
How you can help FAROL:
Prepare care boxes
Every week, Ericeira based initiative Farol prepares food boxes for local people and families in need. Farol collects left over food and ingredients from local restaurants, supermarkets and shops. As a volunteer you wil help preparing and handing out the food boxes on a Monday or Friday of your choice between 3 PM and 5:30 PM.
Collect leftover food
Farol collects left over food and ingredients from local supermarkets everyday after the doors are closed. As a volunteer you wil help collecting food from supermarket Continente in Salgados (aprox. 7km from Ericeira) or from Continente in Mafra (aprox. 9 km from Ericeira), with your own car, and bring it to the Farol headquarters at the Salão Paroquial Ericeira (by the St. Peter Church – Largo de São Pedro, 2655-363)
The left overs are kept there by other volunteers to, next day, prepare boxes for Ericeira´s families.
They need volunteers who can be committed to collecting these foods and bring to the Church “São Paroquial” on the following days: October 29th, November 12th and November 26th.
