Free Portuguese lessons for volunteers

For the next two months, we offer a fresh approach to our free Portuguese conversation lessons to help you volunteer with local initiatives. First you choose a project you’d like to volunteer with. And over the next two months, you'll learn specific conversation techniques tailored to help you with that project. If you are already volunteering for one of these projects, you're also welcome to join the classes!

Here's how it works:

Sign up for one of the four projects on the list below. Once you’ve signed up, we'll connect you with the initiative.
In our weekly classes, learners will be divided into separate groups based on their chosen project.
Each group will receive dedicated conversation lessons to support your volunteering experience.
Throughout these two months, you’ll get to practice your Portuguese while actively volunteering in the project you chose.

Class Details:
The classes take place every Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Barzinho in Ribamar. The course will run for two months, from June 4 to July 30. You can sign up anytime during the month of June.

Help hand out food to homeless people in Lisbon
Every Wednesday, the wonderful team at Amigos do Coração prepares around 100 meals and brings them to Lisbon, where they distribute them to homeless individuals in Parque das Nações. As a volunteer, you’ll assist by bringing the meals from Ericeira to Lisbon and helping with the distribution. It starts at 6:30 PM and you are back in Ericeira around 10 PM

Help at the food stand of FAROL at Intermarché
Once a month, FAROL sets up a stand at the entrance of the Intermarché supermarket. There, we hand out small shopping lists with essential items needed by families in need. Shoppers can choose to buy and donate some of these items as they leave the store. As a volunteer, you’ll be part of a small team responsible for handing out the lists and collecting the donations.

Help make care boxes for families in need
Every day, FAROL prepares special care boxes filled with food and essentials for families in need, delivering them to those who require support the most. As a volunteer, you'll join a small team to help pack and distribute these care boxes. Location is the Igreja Paroquial at Largo de S. Pedro in Ericeira

Take elderly people for a bike ride in Mafra
Pedalar Sem Idade (Cycle without Age) is a nationwide initiative where old people and people with reduced mobility can enjoy a bike ride in a Trishaw: a special adapted electric bicycle with a comfy couch. As a volunteer, you’ll pick up a passenger from their home or a meeting point and take them for a ride of about an hour around the city, maybe even to a place full of memories.
