Let's provide meals for homeless people with Amigos Do Coração

Image

Amigos Do Coração (Friends of the Heart) is a lovely non-profit that helps support people experiencing homelessness. Every Wednesday, the team prepares around 100 meals in the Ericeira and Mafra area and brings them to Lisbon, where they share them with the local community in Parque das Nações. Over time, the people there have come to know and appreciate the familiar, friendly faces of ADC and the other groups who show up to help. ADC is made up of both Portuguese and international volunteers, all pitching in whenever they can. Want to be part of this beautiful mission?

How you can help ADC:

Collect donated food
ADC runs on the generosity of amazing donors — from supermarkets and restaurants to private individuals.
These donations come from all kinds of partners and need to be picked up whenever they’re available. Some are scheduled, while others pop up last-minute (sometimes even at unusual hours!).
Thanks to this support, ADC can keep providing meals and help to those who need it most.

When: any day (depending on donations)
Time: 7am-12am (depending on donations)
Where: in the Mafra area

Preparing meals
Each meal includes a soup, a main dish, and sometimes even a dessert (when possible!).
There’s no central kitchen — instead, everything is cooked with love in the homes of volunteers around Ericeira and Mafra. Based on what’s needed and everyone’s availability, volunteers get a little schedule telling them what to prepare and how many portions (like sides for frango no churrasco, for example).
Sometimes people cook together, other times from home, and then all the food is gathered and brought to Lisbon for distribution. It’s teamwork at its best!

When: Tuesdays / Wednesdays
Time: by 6pm (depending on the volunteers' availability)
Where: volunteers' kitchens

Distribute meals in Lisbon
Volunteers pick up the meals and head to Lisbon (Parque das Nações) for distribution, which kicks off around 7 PM. There’s a regular spot where they set up a table, and the people who need support know exactly where to find them.
It’s a team effort—other associations are there too, making sure no one goes hungry. Most nights, the 100 meals are gone in less than an hour! If there are any leftovers, ADC either shares them with other groups nearby or goes looking for people in the area who could use a warm meal.
It’s a beautiful example of community coming together, week after week.

When: Wednesdays
Time: 5:30pm-8pm (including pick-up)
Where: Parque das Nações in Lisbon
